SUMMARY:

The Controller is an at-will position that reports to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFOAO). This position will ensure that Common Ground has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and audits.  This position will manage the accounting system, to include reporting, program analysis, and contract billing.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Document and implement an internal control system that continuously monitors critical areas of financial control, identify problems and implement corrective action
  • Manage all financial transactions (either directly or through supervision), to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll to include petty cash, cash receipts and deposits
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures
  • Ensure annual audits are performed in accordance with applicable regulatory standards
  • Maintain daily cash schedule and assist with cash flow forecasting
  • Responsible for financial reporting, monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Prepare and disseminate monthly reports to Managers, Directors, and Chiefs, as applicable
  • Track actual agency performance against the annual budgets by program
  • Manage relationships with external entities including banks, investment advisors, and insurance carriers
  • Direct and supervise fiscal coordinators, ensuring adherence to Common Ground personnel policies and procedures
  • Provide training and development, appraisal, and recognition, and provide discipline to direct reports, as appropriate and per policy
  • Develop quality indicator benchmarks
  • Monitor the indicators and update as benchmarks are achieved
  • Prepare funding source reports and invoice grantors/contracts
  • Complete monthly financial grant reporting
  • Ensure preparation of bank account reconciliations, general ledger account analyses and reconciliations monthly
  • Comply with attendance and punctuality policies, and all other Common Ground policies and procedures

 

RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as the liaison to the external independent auditor
  • Provide information and monitor all external auditors in conjunction with the CFOAO
  • Monitor cash disbursements: i.e. audit bills, oversee the issuance of checks, general ledger entries, payroll
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant software and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master of Business Administration or Master of Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance and/or accounting
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred

Work is done in an office environment with exposure to computer screens. Assignments may require work to be done on an individual basis or in teams with members at various staffing levels. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may subject staff to behavioral and medical events that could be physically hazardous.

Other Requirements:

The ability to work various shifts and irregular hours; The Controller or their approved designee is responsible to answer the Common Ground cell phone or texts 24/7 for emergencies unless planned back up is arranged for times when the director is unavailable (e.g. vacation).
